A large population in Pakistan is malnourished; according to FAO and UN estimates more than 37 million in people are not getting proper nourishment. The nutritional deficiencies lead to health problems in the people leading to a significant loss in GDP in Pakistan every year. Nutritional status of the Pakistani children is also very low. Over half the children are affected by stunting and about 9% by wasting. Women particularly in the child bearing age are especially vulnerable to malnutrition.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad is top ranked University in the country with global rankings. Molecular Care is a project in the Department of Biochemistry of the University offering high quality diagnostics, research and trainings facilities for the community. Molecular Care has organized many awareness seminars and workshops. International Symposium on Health and Nutrition is part of series of such awareness events. It is being organized in collaboration with Nutrition Section, Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform that is striving hard to eradicate malnutrition from the country. SUN (scaling up nutrition) movement Pakistan and World Food Program (WFP) are also main collaborators of the symposium. SUN movement has the vision to have a world free from malnutrition in all its forms by 2030. WFP has a motto "fighting hunger worldwide", delivering food assistance in around 80 countries to improve nutrition. GAIN (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition) is an international organization driven by the vision of a world without nutrition, will also collaborate to organize the symposium. Endowment Fund Secretariat of UAF will also support the symposium activity.

The ISHN will be a driving force for the students and researchers to discover healthier nutrition for healthier life. The eminent researchers and professionals in the field will deliver lectures to emphasize that only a healthier nutrition may lead to a healthier nation. The symposium will be open for students, researchers and faculty from diverse disciplines. Recommendations of the symposium will be publicized to create awareness in the community.
